Eustis, FL—Trial attorney and philanthropist Willie Gary recently visited students at Eustis Heights Elementary School in Eustis, Florida, during an educational pep rally to encourage them to “Be the Best” and “Dream Big Dreams.”
Gary spoke to over 300 boys and girls in the third, fourth and fifth grades, in an effort to motivate them to strive for academic excellence. Gary emphasized the importance of good attendance, working hard in school and persevering despite difficult circumstances. He spoke of his struggles growing up poor as a migrant worker and the integral role education has played in his success. Like Gary, many of the students at Eustis Heights Elementary School come from depressed living conditions and economically disadvantaged circumstances. Students screamed with excitement when Gary entered the auditorium and positive energy filled the air as the children repeated after Gary shouting, “I am somebody!” Gary spoke to the children about how education helped him achieve his goals, and why it is imperative for each student to work hard in school and obey their teachers and parents. “I always look forward to spending some time and sharing my story with our nation’s most valuable resource, our children,” said Gary. Hopefully, my story and my life touched the lives of these young boys and girls and will inspire them to be the very best they can be.” Known for his philanthropic endeavors, Willie Gary and his wife, Gloria Gary, founded The Gary Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities – including $10 million to their alma mater Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
