STUART, FL – Prominent attorney and humanitarian, Willie E. Gary recently served as the keynote speaker at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum’s “Legacy of Champions” luncheon in Delray Beach, Florida; the organization’s marquis fundraising event. Gary honored the work and legacy of the Spady Museum and applauded the Museum’s Founder, Vera Farrington and the Executive Director, Daisy Fulton, for their tireless efforts to preserve the historical contributions of African Americans in Palm Beach County, Florida. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the museum’s children’s programs. The Spady Museum welcomed Dr. Talbert Shaw and his wife, Marlene, as honorary co-chairs for the occasion and WPTV News Channel 5 personality Tania Rogers returned as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Dr. Talbert Shaw, former Shaw University President, energized the crowd with a powerful introduction of his dear friend, Willie Gary. Gary addressed over 300 community leaders, educators, elected officials and students from local junior high and high schools on his signature topic: “Dream Big Dreams: Refuse to be Denied.” Gary applauded the accomplishments of the 2010 honorees: Rita Ellis, former mayor of Delray Beach, Florida; Perry Stokes, vocalist, playwright and drama coach at Carver Middle School; Addie Green, former Palm Beach County Commissioner; Tony Newbold; External Affairs Area Manager for Florida Power and Light; and, the Keith Straghn Foundation for its outstanding community service. Gary also took a moment to encourage the children in the audience to strive for academic excellence. “Mr. Gary is a wonderful guest speaker for our first ‘Legacy of Champions’ luncheon because he represents the success we can achieve and the support we can give others if we apply our talents to a high goal,” said Executive Director, Daisy Fulton. “We are extremely excited to have Mr. Gary as the headliner for our newly revamped signature event.”
